Continuing Care Assistant - Casual Position

Position Scope:
A CCA is a member of the interdisciplinary resident care team and works under the direction and supervision of our LPN in the provision of care.
Job Responsibilities:
- Reads report at the beginning of shifts to become informed on a resident's condition from previous shifts, and receive assignment of duty.
- Perform such procedures as bed making, bathing, bed bath, hair care, care of nails, oral hygiene and frequent checks.
- General am, and pm care, help with dressing and undressing of resident, shaves, assistance with walking and simple exercises.
- Make sure any resident who is not well and cannot have their meals at the table get served in their room (dessert included).
- Serving all meals to residents, including setting tables and cleaning tables after meals.
- Make sure all residents are invited out to Day Room for entertainment.
- Assists residents to bathroom
- Completing all aspects of facility laudry
- Clean up feces and vomit as required until cleaning person can do main job.
- Observes residents and notes condition, appetite, and report changes or unusual findings to LPN/ Administrator.
- Record findings.
- Assists in providing a clean safe, happy and loving comfortable environment.
- Wipe up spills, keep resident's room tidy.
- Complete a check of all residents prior to getting them up for the day.
- Complete check of all residents every hour throughout the day.
- Tend to special needs and requests of residents.
- Promote a safe, restful and comforting environment for the residents.
- Maintains knowledge and effectively follows all of facility policies and procedures relating to Fire Safety, Infection Control, Occupational Health and WHIMIS.
- Participate in facility events as required such as birthdays, bingo, parties, crafts, exercise, funerals, etc.
Required Qualifications:
- Successful completion of Nova Scotia CCA course or equivalent, experience may be considered
- Current and clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Motivated and committed to continuing education
- Experience in long term care setting considered an asset
- Willing to work shift work on an as needed basis
- Ability to work and contribute productively in a team environment
- Ability to work with Residents with various health concerns
- Be accountable for own actions, demonstrate a client-focused philosophy to care, is sensitive to client's unique care and knows when to seek guidance or direction if this exceeds their experience.
- Must be a team member, understand own values and attitudes and their effect on caring for residents.
- Must understand the legal requirements for maintaining resident records.
- Maintains confidentiality; communicates with other staff, residents and their families.
- Organize and prioritize the work load to meet the needs of clients.
