We are currently recruiting Dog Control Officers (X3) for on-call work outside of regular business hours.

This role is responsible for responding to questions or concerns that are routed through the after-hours Call Centre for dog related reports from the public. This role will manage dog-related incidents in the field occurring outside of regular business hours as necessary, with a primary focus on dog control and public safety.

Dog Control Officers will be on-call outside of regular business hours for 7 days (1 week) per month, on a rotational schedule, and will be required to report to work to resolve concerns, as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience in animal control, bylaw enforcement, animal behaviour, or related field is an asset. Training will be provided by the Municipality.
  • Basic knowledge of municipal compliance and report writing.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during evening and weekend hours.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Physically capable of lifting, restraining, and transporting dogs.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emotionally charged situations.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Working Environment

  • Primarily field-based, and must be able to respond to calls throughout the municipality during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to unpredictable dogs, weather conditions, and emotionally sensitive situations.
  • Must be able to manage potentially volatile situations while maintaining a calm and measured approach.

Hourly Rate: $27.00/hour

On-Call Pay: Paid 1 hour for each weekday on call, and 2 hours for each Saturday, Sunday and holiday on-call. Hourly rate will apply during call- outs.

On-Call Hours: Responsible for 1 week per month, on a rotational schedule. On-call hours include weekdays from 4:30 pm to Midnight, and Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays from 8:00 am to Midnight.
