Salary: $18 minimum /hour

Department: Social Development - Child and Youth Well-Being Branch

Placement Description:
The Child and Youth Well-Being Branch is seeking a graduate-level Researcher to conduct a focused analysis of the historical evolution of legislation impacting children and youth in New Brunswick.
The successful candidate will examine how shifts in policy frameworks have influenced child and youth well-being over time, including intended and unintended outcomes. This work will involve mapping key legislative changes, identifying trends in service delivery and youth outcomes, and analyzing emerging social, clinical, and system-level patterns to inform future planning.
Key responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting legislative and policy reviews
  • Completing environmental scans and literature reviews
  • Analyzing historical and emerging trends in child and youth systems
  • Synthesizing findings into clear, strategic briefing materials
  • Participating in meetings and multidisciplinary discussions to understand how policy translates into practice

This placement offers advanced, hands-on experience in policy analysis and strategic planning within a public sector environment. The student will engage directly in applied research that informs decision-making and service design for children, youth, and families.

Need to have:

  • Language requirement: English
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in Public Policy, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Law, or a related field
  • Strong policy analysis and research skills
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and interpreting legislation
  • Competency in qualitative and/or quantitative analysis
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of child and youth systems
  • Understanding of mental health and social determinants of health
  • Awareness of equity considerations, including Indigenous and culturally grounded perspectives
  • Experience synthesizing complex research into practical recommendations
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders
