Job Details:
Reporting to the Manager of Development Services, this position is accountable for providing technical support relative to the development, planning and regulatory functions of the Department. The Development Technician conducts planning and regulatory studies and surveys, conducts land and building use analysis, and prepares assessments of subdivision and development applications. The Development Technician conducts inspections and investigates complaints to assure development in the Town proceeds in a manner consistent with applicable legislation.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Planning Technology from an accredited institution or an Applied Land Use Planning Certificate or equivalent;
- Experience working in a technical capacity in a municipal office or equivalent;
- Membership/certification with the Municipal Development Officers Association of Nova Scotia or ability to obtain same is preferred;
- Knowledge of applicable municipal, provincial and federal codes, regulations and laws applicable to planning and development administration. Specific documents of principal importance include the Town of Paradise Municipal Plan and Development Regulations, the Urban and Rural Planning Act and Regulations, and the Municipalities Act;
- Knowledge of work practices and methods applicable to a municipal setting;
- High level of interpersonal skills and ability to deal well with members of the public;
- Ability to read and interpret deed descriptions, surveys, maps, engineering drawings and Real Property Reports;
- Knowledge and practical skills in relation to Geographic Information Systems and Permit Management Systems;
- AutoCad proficiency, subdivision design and experience in the preparation and implementation of municipal bylaws would be an asset;
- Valid Class 5 driver's license;
This is a full-time, permanent unionized position working 35 hours per week. The salary for this position is based on an annual salary of $74,287.65 as per the Collective Agreement. The Town is an Equal Opportunity Employer. If this job interests you, apply before March 10, 2026.
