The Opportunity

Emera Newfoundland & Labrador (ENL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Emera Inc. (EMA- TSX), is responsible for designing, engineering, constructing, operating and maintaining the 500-megawatt Maritime Link Project. The Maritime Link Project (MLP) will transmit energy between the Island of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. With presence in both provinces, ENL is committed to ensuring that the Maritime Link Project transmits clean, renewable energy for Nova Scotia.

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented Corporate Accountant to join our team and contribute to our continued success.


Key elements of this role include:
  • Key player in monthly accounting cycle; preparing journal entries, maintaining detailed account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy of files, and meeting tight month-end/ quarter-end/year-end deadlines.
  • Completion of bank reconciliations.
  • Facilitate the annual external audit, coordinating with external auditor as required.
  • Responsible for all government required filings (GST/HST etc.).
  • Support the Accounts Payable process by facilitating payments to contractors
  • Responsible for intercompany accounts, including monthly reconciliation, timely payment as well as annual reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare financial analysis and ad hoc reports.
  • Other accounting and special project responsibilities as assigned.

You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.


These skills will make you successful:
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Commerce with 2+ years related work experience and has completed or is working toward an accounting designation (CPA), a related combination of experience and education will be considered;
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel;
  • Experience in a regulated accounting environment would be considered an asset.
  • Detailed oriented and posses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment;
  • Have a solid business acumen, customer focused and comfortable working with confidential information.
