The IT Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and support of the University of Fredericton's technology environment. This includes cloud platforms, enterprise systems, end-user hardware, and in-office infrastructure.
This role plays a critical part in supporting students, faculty, and staff by providing timely and effective technical assistance via email and phone, while also ensuring stable, secure, and reliable technology operations across the institution.
The IT Administrator focuses on operational execution, technical support, hardware lifecycle management, and platform administration, working closely with the IT Manager to implement initiatives and maintain service standards.
Core Responsibilities Technical Support & Service Delivery
• Provide frontline technical support to students, faculty, and internal staff via email and phone.
• Troubleshoot issues related to LMS access, account access, email, device setup, and core systems.
• Resolve or escalate issues in accordance with established service standards.
• Maintain clear documentation of support tickets and resolutions.
• Communicate technical solutions clearly to non-technical users.
End-User & Hardware Management
• Manage the full lifecycle of employee hardware, including procurement, configuration, deployment, refresh planning, asset tracking, and secure decommissioning.
• Prepare and deploy laptops, desktops, monitors, and peripherals for onboarding.
• Coordinate access removal and equipment retrieval for offboarding.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and connectivity issues for both remote and on-site employees.
• Maintain office technology infrastructure, including printers, conference room equipment, wireless access points, and network hardware.
Platform & Systems Administration
• Administer and support core cloud platforms, including Microsoft 365, CRM systems, LMS platforms, and identity management tools.
• Provision and deprovision of user accounts and permissions in alignment with security standards.
• Support integrations between systems and assist with troubleshooting workflows or automation issues.
• Monitor system health and escalate recurring or systemic risks to the IT Manager.
• Assist with the implementation and rollout of new systems or enhancements as directed.
• Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
• 1-2 years of experience in IT administration systems support, or helpdesk environments.
• Experience providing technical support to end users in a service-oriented environment.
• Experience supporting cloud-based SaaS environments.
• Experience managing hardware lifecycle processes and asset tracking.
• Experience supporting in-office and remote employees.
Technical Skills
• Endpoint device configuration and management
• User identity and access management
• Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 administration
• Network fundamentals (firewalls, VPN, wireless access points)
• Hardware troubleshooting and repair coordination
• Printer and office infrastructure support
• Basic cybersecurity principles and device security practices
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills

Other Requirements
• Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
• Overtime as required.
• Lifting or moving up to 25lbs may be required.

Hours of Work
This is a full-time permanent position (35 hours per week) under regular business hours. The position is based in Fredericton, NB, with the option to work remotely from anywhere in New Brunswick and attend in-person meetings as required. The ideal candidate resides in New Brunswick or is willing to relocate.
