The Manager of Mental Health and Addictions is accountable for the operation of a comprehensive array of mental health and, addictions programs within the Population Health branch of Western Health with a primary focus on the operation and supervision of the Adult Mental Health Unit as well as other mental health and addictions services. Reporting to the Director of Mental Health and Addictions Services, the incumbent will be responsible for participating as a member of the management team in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Mental Health and Addictions program. Provides clinical supervision and leadership of health professionals within the Mental Health and Addictions program necessary to encourage and support innovation to promote a climate of continuous improvement and creativity. The manager is responsible for providing leadership in health promotion, prevention, and education initiatives. The manager demonstrates skills and abilities necessary to build relationships and to enhance linkages with the internal programs and facilitate partnerships with external stakeholders/consumer groups. The manager facilitates the engagement of staff, clients, families and caregivers in the delivery of services that are focused on quality and safety.

Qualifications: Candidates considered for this position must have a minimum of five years of clinical experience in the mental health and/or addictions field. Leadership experience is required as strong leadership, facilitation, and team building skills are essential in the operation of this position. The successful candidate must possess advanced analytical and problem solving skills required to respond to the complex needs of clients in a dynamic environment. Previous management experience would be an asset. A Master?s Degree in Social Sciences, Nursing, or a health related area is required. Proof of registration with a professional body is required.

In the event no suitable candidate is found with the above noted qualifications, consideration may be given to applicants who do not currently possess a Master?s Degree, provided they are willing to complete same within five years of appointment to the position. In this case, the successful applicant must be prepared to demonstrate proof of registration/enrollment to an appropriate degree program within the first year of appointment to the position. Furthermore, the successful applicant is required to provide annual updates based on the progress of each semester of the program.
