Job Summary

NL Health Services is seeking applications for the position of Medical Transport Physician (MTP) Paramedicine Program. The MTP will serve as a fully integrated program embedded within the Provincial Medical Communications Center (PMCC) providing 24 hour physician input into air and ground emergent, urgent, and routine patient transportation. This position is accountable to the Clinical Chief of EMS and Medical Transport. To work in this environment, all MTPs should have at least 5 years of experience in the EM field or a resuscitation-focused specialty such as Anesthesiology or Critical Care. Emergency Medicine qualifications of either the CCFP(EM) or FRCPC Emergency Medicine are highly desired however equivalent or comparable experience in a high volume or tertiary care centre will be strongly considered in the absence of these qualifications. Successful MTPs will have either a knowledge of, or willingness to learn, paramedicine and MedFlight NL protocols. Knowledge and experience with rural or isolated medicine and general knowledge of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and its unique challenges are considered assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Acting as a physician to physician ?911? for rural physicians with critical patients in a ?One call does it all? approach and provide real time resuscitation advice for rural physicians.
  • Act as the supporting physician for MedFlight NL
  • Triage and prioritize critical MEDEVACS throughout the province.
  • Triage ?stat? interfacility ambulance transfers
  • Provide real-time paramedicine provider support for the ground emergency paramedicine program.
  • Provide real-time clinical support for the community paramedicine programs in care facilities and the paramedicine palliative care program
  • Secondary triage of pending 911 calls during red alerts (times when no ambulance is available) using virtual care and rapid response paramedics
  • Facilitation of alternative care pathways for 911 patients including non-transfers and referral to urgent care

Qualifications

? Current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of

Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL).

? Current appointment to medical staff of NLHS.

? Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice.

? Discipline-specific certification ? FRCPC, CCFP or Equivalent.
