About Us
Tidal CFO helps growing organizations gain financial clarity, confidence, and control. We are a modern, remote-first finance firm providing fractional CFO, controller, and bookkeeping services to Canadian startups, nonprofits, and SMEs, with roots in Atlantic Canada.
Our CPA-led team blends hands-on accounting support with strategic financial leadership. We act as trusted advisors, building strong internal systems, leveraging modern cloud-based tools, and creating efficient, scalable processes that support our clients' growth.
At the same time, we are building a collaborative, high-performing team that values accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
We are looking to expand our team with a highly organized, self-motivated Senior Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is motivated by continuous learning and career growth.
The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to support our client engagements by delivering accurate financial reporting and maintaining strong accounting foundations. This role reports directly to management and plays a critical part in executing month-end close, reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting operations across multiple clients.
As a Senior Accountant, you will be hands-on in the preparation and review of financial information while collaborating closely with management. While Tidal CFO operates as a remote first firm, this role requires a willingness to spend time onsite at client offices or places of work when appropriate to support relationship-building, onboarding, and key deliverables. You will help ensure data integrity, support system improvements, and contribute to a consistent, high-quality client experience.
This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who enjoys ownership of their work, thrives in a fast-paced, client-facing environment, and wants exposure to advisory-focused accounting within a fast-growing, dynamic firm with a clear path to advancement into a Manager role.
If you're a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and a passion for client delivery, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver High-Quality Financial Outcomes
- Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) for assigned clients
- Complete bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
- Support payroll accounting, HST filings, and intercompany transactions
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial data prior to Manager review
- Support Month-End Close & Reporting
- Execute month-end close tasks in alignment with internal timelines and client expectations
- Maintain clear, organized, and audit-ready working papers
- Assist Managers with financial reporting packages and supporting schedules
- Flag unusual variances, discrepancies, or risks and proactively communicate findings
- Maintain Systems & Process Integrity
- Ensure client adherence to established accounting systems and workflows (QBO, Xero, Dext and related tools)
- Support data clean-up projects, system implementations, and new client onboarding
- Follow documented processes while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across tools, templates, and workflows
- Collaborate with Managers & Internal Teams
- Work closely with Managers to meet deadlines and deliver consistent client outcomes
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal team members and clients as needed
- Support internal quality control processes by preparing accurate documentation and anticipating review needs
- Act as a coach and mentor to junior and intermediate accountants by providing guidance, reviewing work, sharing best practices, and supporting their professional development
- Contribute to building a strong, collaborative team culture grounded in learning and accountability
What We're Looking For
- Accounting Experience: 3+ years of full-cycle accounting experience
- Professional Credentials: CPA designation (completed or in progress) considered an asset
- Bilingual (English/French): Strongly preferred and considered a significant asset
- Client Service Mindset: Experience working in a client-facing or professional services environment
- Highly Organized: Strong ability to manage multiple clients and priorities simultaneously
- Detail-Oriented: Commitment to accuracy, documentation, and high-quality execution
- Tech-Savvy: Experience with cloud-based accounting tools such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, Dext, Syft, and Plooto

What We Offer
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience and value brought to the role
- Willingness to pay a premium for candidates who strongly meet our technical, leadership, and cultural criteria
