JOB PURPOSE

The Respiratory Therapist 6 is therapeutic and diagnostic work providing respiratory services to patients with respiratory sleep disorders and daytime alertness issues. Work includes performing and evaluating sleep and wake studies to obtain quality recordings for specialist interpretation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed with the New Brunswick Association of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

May be required to provide guidance, training and orientation to other Respiratory Therapist staff, students and other health care professionals.

These job duties are only the basic and prime duties of the job, related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the service

POLYSOMNOGRAPHY TESTING

  • Review patient chart, orders, and protocols.
  • Interview, assess and educate patients.
  • Instruct patients for sleep laboratory or outpatient testing.
  • Prepare patients, set up and calibrate equipment.
  • Monitor patients and screens during inpatient testing.
  • Perform monthly quality assurance reviews.

DATA ANALYSIS

  • Analyze and score recordings, and correlate data to patient diaries (if applicable).
  • Enter data and send report for interpretation by a specialist.

EQUIPMENT

  • Assemble and calibrate equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is properly processed by following infection prevention protocols.

EDUCATION

  • Educate patients on sleep hygiene.
  • Deliver education sessions to various healthcare professionals/providers and students.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Document assessments, interventions, and communications with care team/third parties
