What you'll do:

Accountabilities: With Nova Scotia Power's Environmental Services, Hydro and Wind team, you will be responsible for providing support to the environmental services team on various hydro operational and capital projects, including:

  • Supporting fieldwork, including water quality, wetland, fish and aquatic habitat surveys and studies
  • Providing environmental support to other NSP work groups, such as hydro capital and hydro operations teams
  • Supporting contractor management, including contractor safety requirements and environmental compliance monitoring
  • Preparing permit applications and reviewing and preparing environmental reports
  • Attending planning meetings, site visits and team meetings

Fieldwork at various NS Power sites is a key part of this role. You will be responsible for travel to various NS Power sites across the province as required, which may include overnight stays.

You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

Who you are:

  • You must be working towards a degree in biology, environmental technology, environmental engineering or other environmental related field and have completed your first two years of the curriculum.
  • You must be experienced in the use of the MS Office suite, including MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS Project, with ability to learn MS Outlook.
  • You are comfortable handling multiple priorities in a high-volume, deadline-oriented environment and can effectively utilize your strong organizational, communications and time management skills.
  • You have demonstrated leadership capabilities including experience building partnerships across and between functional groups.
  • You are an energetic self-starter who actively participates as a team player.
  • You possess good planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work, complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and work independently.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to problem solve.
  • You have exceptional communication/facilitation skills and a strong customer focus.
  • You possess a Class 5 Driver's License.
