McInnes Cooper is seeking an Accounting Clerk to join our team in our St. John's office in a full-time permanent position. As part of the Finance & Accounting team, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day transaction processing for a variety of general accounting support tasks. You will be supported by your team in our other offices along with your St. John's office members.
As an Accounting Clerk, you will be responsible to maintain all daily processing and inquiries related to:
- Accounts Payable: processing of firm member expense reports and vendor invoices.
- Accounts Receivable: cash receipts, incoming client calls, and preparation of third-party reports for remittances.
- Trust: monitoring of trust accounts, processing deposit requisitions, processing of investment and wiring requests for client trust funds and posting and reconciliation of client disbursements.
The successful candidate will possess the following skill set:
- Bachelor's Degree and/or Diploma in Finance, Accounting or Business is an asset; however, we recognize that historical and systemic barriers have shaped and limited access to traditional education, training, and employment pathways for many individuals, particularly those from marginalized communities. - Minimum one (1) year of related experience.
- Ability to multi-task and accurately process high volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in data entry and Microsoft Excel with exceptional attention to detail.
- A solid knowledge of basic accounting principles and strong math skills.
- Experience with legal billing software (such as Elite 3E and/or Emburse Enterprise), knowledge of provincial law society trust account rules, and experience working in a professional services environment are considered assets.
