People Plus Consulting Limited (PPCL) is a Halifax-based company providing employment and career services for over 35 years. We are seeking an individual passionate about assisting Nova Scotia Public school students and their families in understanding and preparing for the Nova Scotia Labour Market. The School Liaison will support students in Grades 7-12 and their families in exploring career options, understanding Nova Scotia Labour Market information and how these connect to school choices.
The successful candidate is a dynamic, organized and detail-oriented individual with outstanding people skills, is highly adaptable and flexible, and has a passion for helping students/families to successfully implement their career goals.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Identify appropriate services and tools needed to support student career and labour market connections
- Develop and enhance relationships with education, community organizations, service providers, industry partners and other referral agencies to support student self and career exploration
- Collaborate to organize events such as job fairs and employer presentations
- Promote and deliver "Let's Talk Careers" workshop at the Junior and Senior High School levels
- Liaise with outside public and private sector organizations
- Schedule and facilitate individualized and/or group career support to students and families, through small group workshops and individual sessions, with a focus on essential and employability skills and labour market information
- Use approved Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) career software platforms to help students navigate labour market information, find information about specific employment opportunities and to explore workplace expectations
- Provide support to Grade 12 students to enter the labour market post-graduation, which may include individual and group sessions
- Provide flexible support at school based and external locations such as lunch and learn or evening sessions related to students needs regarding career information and connections to post secondary
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the province to share resources and deliver virtual workshops
Skills and Competencies:
- Good knowledge of public school system, community organizations, service providers and referral agencies
- Ability to access and effectively use information and communications technology (MS Office applications and online communications tools)
- Ability to facilitate learning with differences in learning styles
- Well-developed ability to design, organize and implement group sessions with diverse client groups
- Client orientated; able to work well with students and the public
- Committed to treating students and their families/caregivers with respect and exercising a non-judgmental attitude
- Capable of communicating effectively with people from a wide variety of educational, cultural and economic backgrounds
- Experience in applying career guidance theories, methods, practices, tools and resources
- Must be comfortable working in a variety of work settings and with diverse populations
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with the capacity for adaptation and flexibility
- Strong networking and effective communication skills, verbal and written
- Excellent interpersonal skills and possess sound judgment skills
- Demonstrates practice of inclusion, ethical decision making and respect of diversity
- Commitment to professional development and career self-management
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Education in Human Services, Education or related field of study, OR a combination of education and work related/community and volunteer experience
- Experience working with youth, persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, African Canadians, and other racially visible persons
- Willing to obtain the Certified Career Development Practitioner designation
- Willing to obtain the Case Manager Specialization Certification
- Must have a clean criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
- Must be available to work evenings and/or weekends on occasion
- A Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and reliable transportation, is preferred
- Bilingual (French) considered an asset
Hours of Work:
Full-time, 35 hours per week, Varied work hours
Start Date:
As soon as possible
Terms:
Full-time, yearly term with the intention to extend annually based on funding agreement.
3-month probation period

3 weeks Annual leave after probation period
