Purpose


Contributes to the overall success of MD Financial Management/Regulatory Reporting in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Reconciliation Analyst is responsible for the timely and accurate reconciliation of MD's cash and general ledger accounts in strict compliance with Bank standards and regulatory requirements. They are responsible to research and resolve any outstanding unresolved items and escalate potential risk to management. They are required to give a high degree of customer support to internal departments (such as Resolution team, Account transfers team, Trade centre).

Reconciliation Analysts must possess very good knowledge of the products and systems relating to the transactions and accounts being reconciled, as they work under tight deadlines.

Accountabilities

• Responsible for production and analysis of dealer, fund manager, discretionary manager, and life company daily general ledger and bank account reconciliations for all R-Broker and R-Funds accounts and related journal entries
• Responsible for researching and providing solutions to general ledger and bank accounts reconciliation unresolved items
• Responsible for preparation of journal entries to clear accounts
• Responsible for production of monthly regulatory report for each general ledger account and calculation of the margin total in the CIRO (Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization) regulatory report
• Collaborate with other department to ensure proper accounting for client related transactions; need to understand both departmental and client needs
• Assist with audit requests and regulatory reporting
• Ensure that all irregularities /improprieties are escalated promptly.
• Communicate with various banks when banking issues arise
• Recommend and suggest reconciliation process improvements
• Document reconciliation process to facilitate cross-training and integration of new team members
• Ability to identify areas of concerns & propose solutions
• Provide training, back up and assistance for all new team members.
• Supports all reconciliations for MD dealers and fund manufacturer (Canada)
• Reconciliations prepared as part of Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) requirements as well as OSC requirements
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with an ability to condense large amount of transactional information into a concise solution/report

• Ability to solve most problems independently, however, may escalate larger issues to next level

Education / Experience / Other Information

• College Accounting Diploma or university degree with Accounting or Finance major
• High level of technical expertise with various software packages – proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows including EXCEL, Word and MS Outlook
• Knowledge of R-Broker and R-Funds
• Experience with reconciliations
• Knowledge of Alteryx application (considered an asset)
• Enrollment in the CPA Program (considered an asset)
