At Ambulance New Brunswick, our team consists of talented emergency medical dispatchers, primary and advanced care paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and critical care flight nurses. Health care professionals who respond with their best in some of the most difficult situations imaginable.
As the provincial ambulance service provider, our dispatchers respond to calls from those in medical distress through the 911 system and send help within seconds. Our paramedics take over from there, responding to approximately 130,000 calls per year and transporting patients to hospital by ambulance. And, each year, our specialized air ambulance crew transfers hundreds of the most critically ill and injured patients to specialized medical centres around the Maritimes and beyond.
Duties of Position:
Provide pre?hospital clinical care prior to the arrival of a transporting ambulance when required. This work involves assessment, triage and managing patient care independently and collaboratively with ambulance crews when required.
Clinical expectations and responsibilities for Primary Care Paramedics are based on the current National Occupational Competency Profile (NOCP) for Primary Care Paramedics, Paramedic Association of New Brunswick registration requirements as well as Ambulance NB policies, procedures and protocols.
Paramedics are also expected to maintain and operate ambulances or clinical support unit (CSU) and related equipment in accordance with patient needs and public safety. Assesses, triages, and manages patient care until the arrival of an ambulance. Assist and collaborate with ambulance personnel with the provision of medical treatment, when necessary.
If you're a new graduate from a post-secondary program in paramedicine or have working experience outside the province of New Brunswick, ANB has a standardized process for selecting top candidates to fill Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) positions. Conducted several times a year, the Selection Process consists of a comprehensive assessment to determine your level of qualification to work for our organization.
Required Qualifications:
- You are entitled to work in Canada (Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or work permit);
- Primary Care Paramedic program/course of over six months;
- Must meet all legislated requirements for Paramedics in New Brunswick;
- Must be registered, active Paramedic with the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick; If you are not currently registered in New Brunswick, please visit PANB at www.panb.ca
- Have a minimum of two years' experience as a registered Primary Care Paramedic;
- Must have a valid New Brunswick Class 4 Driver's License (or equivalent)
- Must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently as a member of the team and possess strong interpersonal skills;
- Must be able to work all shifts as assigned, maintaining a good attendance record
- Must have excellent work habits and have a professional appearance.
- Must have a high regard for confidentiality and patient safety;
- Possess the ability to work independently;
- Displays capability of decision-making and takes initiative and;
Additional requirements for your application:
- Current Resume and Cover Letter
- A copy of your PCP diploma from an accredited institution
- Proof of current registration with Paramedic Association of New Brunswick
- Proof of completion of a Physical Abilities Test (PAT) specific to working as a paramedic within the last 12 months
- Proof of valid CPR level C certification issued in the last 12 months
- Photocopy of front and back of valid Class 4 driver's license (or equivalent) with minimum one year driving experience
- Driver's abstract; issued within the last 30 days
- Copy of any valid Driver's course certificate i.e. CEVO, VFIS or NS VSP or equivalent issued within the last three years
- Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check; issued within the last 30 days
- Immunization Record (Tetanus Tdap) within the last 10 years, 2 MMR vaccines (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) or lab evidenced immunity, 2 Varicella vaccines (Chicken Pox) or lab evidenced immunity, 3 Hepatitis B doses and Lab evidenced immunity, TB Skin Test (2 step) and a 1-step in the last 12 months; if reactive a follow up chest x-ray).
