SENIOR POLICY ADVISOR (PAY BAND 6)

The Department of Social Development (SD) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Policy Advisor to fill a current position in the Policy and Legislative Affairs Branch in Fredericton.

The Policy and Legislative Affairs Branch collaborates with all branches in the Department on policy development. The branch is responsible for preparing legislative and regulatory proposals to Government, preparing Memorandum to Executive Council for decisions and providing support and advice on the interpretation of departmental legislation. The Policy and Legislative Affairs Branch represents the Province of New Brunswick at several interdepartmental tables and forums related to seniors, and social services, including social services for persons with disabilities, child protection, and support for individuals facing income insecurity.
Responsibilities of Senior Policy Advisors include:
- Developing Memorandum to the Executive Council (MECs), Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), and Agreements;
- Advancing departmental priority projects, including legislative proposals;
- Providing policy advice and support to program branches;
- Offering support on inquiries and investigations by the Ombud, the Integrity Commissioner, Child, Youth and Senior's Advocate, and the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission;
- Representing the province on Atlantic and National committees and working groups and may involve coordinating the Department's inter-governmental work;
- Preparing documents required to support Ministers in the Legislative Assembly; and
- Providing support to Departmental staff and Executive on legal matters, including acting as the Department's liaison with the Office of the Attorney General.

- You have experience in a government or large corporate setting, including experience briefing senior officials on a magnitude of interests and concerns.
- You look for innovative solutions to complex problems and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- You have experience working on complex files, with a focus on results and outcomes, and a strong attention to detail.
Essential qualifications: a bachelor's degree with at least 6 years' progressively responsible related experience OR a master's degree with a minimum of 4 years' progressively responsible related experience.
Depending on the response to the competition, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required.

Operational requirement: Occasional travel within and outside the province. A valid drivers license is required.

Salary: $77,766 to $ 103,454 per year
