We are currently looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Millwright to join our team at Brooklyn Power on a full time, permanent basis. Brooklyn Power is a biomass-wood fired power plant, consisting of a 30 MW turbine/generator and a 330,000 lb/hr fluidized bed boiler.
Located in Brooklyn Nova Scotia, Brooklyn Power is a part of Emera Energy, a well-established and growing energy marketing and trading company in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Emera Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Emera Inc. and is a premier energy marketing company. Emera Energy buys and sells energy commodities and provides related energy management services to customers throughout Eastern Canada and the Northeastern United States.
Key elements of the role include:
- Mechanical maintenance on a range of power plant equipment, including but not limited to:
- Fuel yard equipment (bulldozer, loader, skid steer, etc.)
- Conveyor systems (belts, idlers, tracking/trainers, scrapers, skirts, transition chutes)
- Fuel handling chutes (biomass wood)
- Wood processing equipment (hog grinder, disc screens, etc.)
- Rotating equipment (pumps, fans, screw conveyors, airlocks, etc.)
- Ash handling equipment (drag chain, pneumatic conveyors, precipitator, etc.)
- Blower systems
- PMs (preventative maintenance/ lubrication) of all types of equipment.
- Work in confined spaces: Some maintenance work requires confined space entry. Brooklyn Power arranges confined space training for all employees whose job duties involve work in confined spaces.
- Work at heights: Some maintenance work occurs on equipment at heights of around 100 feet above ground. Brooklyn Power arranges fall protection training for all employees whose job duties involve work at heights.
- Participation in all Brooklyn Power safety programs, including job hazard assessments, work permits, incident report (including pro-actives.)
- This is a physically demanding job. Most Plant equipment is located in various multi-story buildings, and outside in the fuel yard, with access by stairs, overhead catwalks, and ladders.
These skills will make you successful:
You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:
- The successful candidate must possess a Red Seal Journeyman Millwright ticket (i.e. Industrial Mechanic) and have 5-10 years' related experience.
- Welding and cutting skills are a requirement.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good working knowledge of power plant equipment is considered an asset.
- Occasional after hour emergency plant work may be required.
The ideal candidate will live within 60 km of Brooklyn Power (or is willing to relocate) and will be available for work outside standard working hours. This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test.
