Title: Project Manager - Preparedness Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Climate Change Adaptation (CCA)

Employee Working Location: Partially Virtual / Hybrid (Toronto, ON)

Employment Status: Temporary Full-time (12 months).

Report to the Senior Manager of Preparedness and work closely with other members of the DRR-CCA team, other CRC service lines, as well as external partners in supporting the planning, execution, and delivery of a Toronto-based, extreme heat focused project / campaign. Key tasks include coordinating activities and events, tracking progress, and ensuring alignment with scope, timeline, and budget. In this role, you will assist in risk management, stakeholder communication, and change management efforts while maintaining project documentation and compliance with project management standards. By facilitating collaboration, resolving minor issues, and providing reporting and administrative support, you will contribute to successful project outcomes and continuous process improvements.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, budgets, and scope in collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
  • Oversee project execution, ensuring objectives, deliverables, and financials remain on track.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, dependencies, and critical path challenges.
  • Manage scope changes, assessing impacts and making recommendations for decision-making.
  • Lead project meetings, facilitate discussions, and drive stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure timely issue resolution, escalating to leadership when necessary.
  • Oversee change management efforts, ensuring smooth adoption of project outcomes.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation in alignment with PMO frameworks.
  • Provide regular project updates, including status reports and financial tracking.
  • Capture lessons learned and driving continuous improvement.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment, providing guidance, support, and coaching.
  • Ensure compliance with project management policies, standards, and best practices.

What we are looking for :

  • Qualifications include a minimum of 4-7 years of experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in project management, business administration, or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require technical certifications or professional designations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting/managing projects across the full project cycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying change management tools and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and project management information systems (SmartSheet, Jira, Microsoft Planner, Project Operations, etc.).
  • Ability to identify, investigate and analyze problems, identify root causes and risks, and apply technical, functional and organizational knowledge to develop solutions.
  • Communication skills, diplomacy and empathy to interpret information and deliver advice, clarify client or stakeholder needs, offer solutions, and resolve escalations in new or somewhat sensitive situations.
  • Stakeholder management skills to identify needs, resolve issues, keep informed and influence ways of working.

Working Conditions:

  • Most of the work is to be performed in a home environment; however, delivery of the project will include a requirement to organize and facilitate in-person meetings on a frequent, recurring basis in Toronto and across the Greater Toronto Area. Additional conditions include:
  • Occasional requirement to work overtime or irregular hours (i.e., on evenings and weekends) with short notice.
  • If driving for society business; a valid driver's license is required with a satisfactory drivers' abstract.
