The 2026 Emera Employees' Children Scholarship

The Emera Scholarship for Employees' Children offers one (1) non-renewable $2,000 award to children/dependents of regular employees or retirees of Emera Inc., Emera Energy, Emera New Brunswick, and Emera Newfoundland & Labrador. Past recipient winners are welcome to re-apply each year.

Criteria

  • As the applicant, you must be the child of a regular employee or retiree of Emera Inc., Emera Energy, Emera New Brunswick, and/ or Emera Newfoundland & Labrador;
  • A Canadian citizen or landed immigrant;
  • Recipients are selected based on a solid academic record (minimum 75% average), their written essay, (community) leadership, and involvement in extracurricular activities.

Application Requirements

To qualify please complete the Emera Employees' Children Scholarship online application by uploading the following mandatory documents:

  1. Your resume;
  2. Your High School transcript (Grade 10-12, including fall semester marks);
  3. A minimum of one reference letter. You may submit up to three letters, however at least one reference is to be provided by your Teacher, Guidance Counsellor, Vice-Principal or Principal in support of your application;
  4. Your estimated first year budget (please click on this template link to open the document);
  5. And finally; your essay* of max 500 words.

*SUGGESTED ESSAY TOPIC: "Why are you a deserving candidate for this scholarship, and what would receiving this scholarship mean to you?"

This essay is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the Selection Committee. Please help us get to know you. Your essay should include your educational and career goals, non-academic attributes such as volunteer work and relevant extracurricular activities and interests, and what receiving this scholarship will mean to you. Just remember to stick to 500 words or less and please advise us of your connection to Emera, e.g., the name of your Emera relative!

Selection Process

A selection committee, made up of Emera employees, will review all applications and select their finalist(s) based on the following criteria:

  • a solid academic record (minimum 75%);
  • leadership and service to the community;
  • involvement in extra-curricular activities, and;
  • your written essay.

Shortlisted finalists may be invited for an interview to determine our 2025 recipient.

Please note: Nova Scotia Power & Affiliate companies maintain their own Scholarship Program and therefore children/dependents of regular employees or retirees of Nova Scotia Power are not eligible to apply. This scholarship will also not be awarded in conjunction with any other Nova Scotia Power Inc. Scholarships or Bursaries and will not be awarded for the pursuit of Graduate studies.
