Position: Wheelchair Basketball Performance Coach
Organization Overview:
Basketball Nova Scotia (BNS) is the Provincial Sport Organization for basketball which strives to lead, develop, and promote positive basketball experiences at both competitive and recreational levels. The organization is currently looking for a Wheelchair Basketball Performance Coach who will oversee the development of wheelchair basketball athletes across the province.
This is a 12-month contracted position, equaling 6-8 hours weekly. Weekly hours may be adjusted throughout the calendar year based on seasonal events and commitments.
Role Description:
The Wheelchair Basketball Performance Coach will work closely with BNS staff and provincial partners on developing annual plans to introduce standardized training and programming for Nova Scotia wheelchair basketball athletes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creation and oversight of annual athlete development plan
- Scheduling and curriculum development/execution
- On-court training with targeted athletes
- Development and competition opportunities
- Budget preparation and oversight
- Liaise with key partners including Sport Nova Scotia, Wheelchair Basketball Canada & CSI-A
- Social media support as required
- Responding to program inquiries
This role might assist with other duties as determined by BNS Staff.
Organizational Structure:
This role reports to and takes direction from the Executive Director. This position is a 12-month contracted role (weekly hours) with the potential of renewal.
Qualifications/Experience/Attributes:
- Wheelchair basketball coaching experience is an asset.
- Wheelchair Intro to Coaching Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Knowledge of wheelchair rules including classifications is an asset.
- Experience working with athletes in both training and competitive settings.
- Knowledge of Sport Sciences.
- Safe Sport training and knowledge.
- Effective and efficient administrative skills.
- Experience demonstrating positive culture and sport values.
- Valid criminal record, vulnerable sector & child abuse registry checks.
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours.
- Some travel may be required.
