Marine Atlantic is currently looking for a Human Resources Generalist to work with our Human Resources Department, located in North Sydney, NS for a one (1) year term.

The Human Resources (HR) Department is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that align with Marine Atlantic's vision and foster strong employee engagement in all areas of strategic human resource management including talent management, equity, diversity and inclusion, leadership development, labour relations, total compensation, workforce and succession planning, staff scheduling and employee health and wellness.
Reporting to the Director People and Culture, the Human Resources Generalist (HR Generalist) provides support with recruitment strategies and efforts, policy development and education, HR metrics, and HR strategic planning. This role coordinates with the various service areas within HR to assist with ensuring they are operating in a highly integrated and efficient manner.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supports recruitment by attracting top talent for all levels of the organization including management, non-union and unionized employees. This support includes all steps of the recruitment process.
• Researches, develops, and assists in the education for all HR related policies; ensuring policies remain current with external leading practices and are updated on a regular basis.
• Provides logistical and tactical support for the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting on the HR Strategic Plan.
• Maintains a database base of critical HR key performance indicators and conducts trend analysis, provides advice, and provides decision support for interventions or program improvement.
• Through research, supports the Labour Relations and Human Resources groups on projects such as procurement, employee awards, compensation, grievances, arbitrations, contract negotiations, attendance management and other relevant subjects.
• Maintains the HR Risk Register and organizes and facilitates related meetings to provide results.
• As directed by the HR Director may assist with the coordination of the Leadership Forums and other external or internal work-related events.
• Conducts entry and exit interviews as required and reports on results.
• Provides support and advice into the development of the HR objectives and the evaluation of its effectiveness.
• Promotes a safe working environment.
• Assists in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- University Degree or College Diploma in relevant field.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in relevant role.
OR - a combination of equivalent education, job-related training, and experience in a related position.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):
- Broad and in-depth knowledge of progressive practices, trends, etc. in all facets of HR (including Organizational Development, Recruitment and Labour Relations) and demonstrated experience successfully implementing such practices.
- Demonstrated experience in the preparation and execution of HR policies and programs.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, which have shown you to be an excellent influencer and relationship builder, and capable to act as a spokesperson in dealing with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven success leading the implementation of multiple projects and initiatives to drive HR change in the organization.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable):
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) Designation would be considered an asset.
