About the Department/Region

Context: The Eastern Region maintains and supports approximately 3,500 NL Housing rental properties on the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas through offices in St. John's (Avalon) and Marystown. The region provides a wide range of services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations including eviction prevention, and monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. A variety of programs designed to support low to moderate income households and homeowners are also delivered. Regional staff members are involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.

Salary Scale: $57,428 to $63,793 per annum (CG-29 $27.61 to $30.67 per hour), 40 hour work week

Duties: This position is accountable for the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems, as well as performing major plumbing upgrades. The work encompasses the repair and/or replacement of sewer lines, pipes, taps, valves, traps, bathtubs, sinks and toilets. The incumbent may be required to perform basic repairs to oil, hot water, and low-pressure steam heating systems or assist with major repairs. The successful applicant will record material usage, maintain labour records, and requisition supplies. Other related work, including general housing maintenance and basic carpentry, may be required. The successful applicant may be required to mentor an apprentice.

Screening Criteria

Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate of Qualification in the Plumbing Trade

Experience in residential plumbing upgrade and repair work

Heating system repair experience (asset)

Assessment Criteria

Knowledge of National Plumbing Code of Canada

Knowledge of materials and methods of the plumbing trade

Knowledge of oil, hot water and low-pressure steam heating system repairs (asset)

Knowledge of safe work practices

Ability to effectively exchange information
