Position Summary:

The Coach is responsible for providing coaching and support to primary health care patients participating in the BounceBack: Reclaim Your Health program. This non-clinical role focuses on guiding individuals through a structured self-help program designed to manage anxiety, low mood, and depression. The coach will assist participants in utilizing self-help materials, overcoming obstacles, and implementing strategies learned in the program. The position may be full-time and part-time depending on operational needs.

Mail Duties:

Participant Coaching and Support:

  • Provide structured, telephone-based coaching to patients referred by their primary health care provider.
  • Support participants in using established self-help materials, reinforcing key concepts, and problem-solving barriers to their engagement.
  • Offer motivational support and encouragement to ensure program completion, addressing challenges participants may face in applying strategies.
  • Review participant progress, celebrate successes, and reinforce learning and practice of new skills.
  • Administer pre- and post-program structured questionnaires to assess improvements in participants' anxiety, depression, and quality of life.
  • Maintain effective communication with participants, primary health care providers, and the BounceBack Psychologist Consultant to ensure a coordinated approach to care.
  • Document participant progress and enter information into a secure database in a timely manner.

Program Coordination and Liaison:

  • Collaborate with primary health care providers and health organizations to ensure seamless coordination and communication for referrals and participant follow-up.
  • Act as a liaison between participants, healthcare providers, and the BounceBack Psychologist Consultant to address any concerns or program-related issues.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Manager of Support Services and other team members to ensure program goals are met.

Administration, Record Keeping and Reporting:

  • Book and coordinate beneficiary sessions and provide information to prospective beneficiaries.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential participant records, documente progress through the self-help program and track improvements over time.
  • Ensure all data and documentation is entered in accordance with organizational and program standards.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Flexibility in working hours, including evenings, to accommodate participant needs.
  • Travel across the province as required, with access to reliable transportation.
  • Attend required post-hire training and supervisory teleconferences.
  • Participate in program and agency meetings, contributing to team discussions and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in coaching and mental health support.

Qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in human service-related discipline, such as social sciences, mental health, psychology, social work, counselling, education, health, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the following:

o Delivering health promotion activities or health screening tools.

o Conducting standardized assessments of participants.

o Creating a collaborative relationship with participants.

o Engaging targeted populations and the general public.

o Coaching and/or teaching experience is an asset.

o Community development experiences an asset.

o Personal or lived experience of mental health issues an asset.

  • A combination of related work experience and education may be considered
  • Proficiency in both English and French languages is mandatory
  • Excellent working knowledge of skills MS Office 365 / Databases is required.
  • A valid Work Permit is mandatory for temporary residents.
  • Residency in New Brunswick (NB) or willingness to relocate is mandatory.
  • A new Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of mental health and wellness, particularly in areas such as depression, anxiety, and recovery-oriented approaches.
  • Familiarity with the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or structured self-help models.
  • Knowledge of New Brunswick's primary health care system, community supports, and referral processes.
  • Understanding of ethical guidelines around privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent (e.g., PHIPPA).
  • Awareness of the social determinants of health and how they impact mental health outcomes.
  • Strong coaching and motivational communication skills in a non-clinical, strengths-based framework.
  • Active listening and interpersonal skills to support participants with empathy and clarity.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to manage caseloads and appointments.
  • Skilled in documenting participant progress accurately, clearly, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to deliver coaching by phone or virtually with professionalism and warmth.
  • Ability to guide and support participants through structured mental health programs while maintaining boundaries and role clarity.
  • Capacity to build trust and rapport over the phone with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different participant needs and maintain engagement throughout the program.
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to manage sensitive conversations with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, coordinating with internal staff and external partners.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to support participant goal setting and troubleshooting.

Working Conditions:

· Work Environment:

o Primarily based in an office setting with flexibility for remote work as needed.

o Occasional travel within New Brunswick to attend meetings, community events, and community partners engagements.

o Collaborative and team-oriented work culture, with engagement across multiple departments and external partners.

· Work Hours:

o 37.5 hours per week.

o Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

o Flexibility in schedule to balance organizational needs with work-life balance.

· Physical & Mental Demands:

o Requires sustained periods of sitting, working at a computer, and attending virtual or in-person meetings.

o Fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, requiring strong time management and decision-making skills.

o Emotional resilience needed when handling sensitive mental health-related topics and high-stakes advocacy.

o High level of accountability, requiring creative thinking and problem-solving.

o Regular adherence to occupational health and safety policies, especially when attending community sites or working with vulnerable populations.
