The Social Worker I may be involved in assessment, treatment follow up and support of individuals with mental health and addictions needs throughout various mental health and addictions programs and services.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide advanced, community-based clinical social work intervention to children, adolescents, adults and families who are affected by mental health issues. This position is responsible for program planning, implementation and evaluation and provides community awareness, education and advocacy to agencies, the public and client groups. This position operates within the Primary Health Care Model. Duties will be performed both independently and as part of a team of mental health and addictions professionals.
Duties:
This position requires the management of complex, multi-need cases based on current theory and methods of intervention for clients experiencing a wide variety of mental health and addictions problems/issues. The position demands specialized social work skills in the areas of clinical assessment, risk management, and clinical intervention with children, adolescents, adults and families. Intervention services include intensive therapeutic counselling for individuals, families and groups. The position also requires that this advanced knowledge be used to develop and facilitate professional education, clinical consultation, community awareness-raising activities, advocacy and prevention initiatives. This position may provide traveling clinics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced knowledge of theoretical approaches and methods for intensive intervention with people experiencing mental health and /or addictions issues is required. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability in the areas of individual, family and group counselling in these specialized fields. Specific knowledge and experience in the areas of program planning, research methods, problem-solving and community development is required. The required knowledge and proven abilities for this position would normally have been acquired through progressively responsible experience in the area of mental health and addictions. Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Master?s Degree preferred. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers.

While the primary function of this position is to support operations Adult Mental Health Services, the Social Worker I may be involved in assessment, treatment, follow up and support of individuals with mental health and addictions needs throughout various mental health and addictions programs and services.
