The Financial and Consumer Services Commission (Commission) is a leader in integrated financial and consumer services regulation. The Commission's mandate is to protect consumers and enhance public confidence in the financial and consumer marketplace through the provision of regulatory and educational services. With offices in both Fredericton and Saint John, it is responsible for the administration and enforcement of provincial legislation regulating mortgage brokers, payday lenders, real estate, securities, insurance, pensions, credit unions, trust and loan companies, cooperatives, unclaimed property, and a wide range of consumer legislation. The Commission is a self funded Crown corporation responsible for the administration and enforcement of financial consumer services legislation.

Compliance Officer, Consumer Affairs Division (Fredericton Office)

We're looking for a Compliance Officer to play a key role in safeguarding consumers and ensuring regulated industries are in compliance with legislation. You'll work as part of a collaborative Compliance Team to investigate complaints, monitor compliance, and support licensing and Tribunal matters.

You'll also educate the public, shape policy and legislative improvements, and provide expert advice that strengthens protections for consumers across the province. Your Focus

Investigate & Enforce

  • Investigate consumer complaints and audit findings, including interviews and record reviews.
  • Take appropriate compliance actions, prepare investigation reports, and support hearings or Tribunal processes.
  • Manage compliance matters for regulated industries and assist other Compliance Officers as needed.

Compliance & Licensing

  • Review licensing applications and address compliance issues with the Licensing Manager.
  • Work with industry to ensure adherence to legislation and emerging trends and follow up on unresolved matters.
  • Review audit recommendations, issue compliance reports, and support licence suspension decisions when required.

Consumer Education & Policy

  • Educate the public and respond to inquiries on consumer protection legislation.
  • Develop consumer alerts, publications, and online content; deliver presentations to industry and community groups.
  • Support policy and legislative development by preparing recommendations, amendments, and proposals.

What you bring

  • University education in Business Administration, Public Administration, Commerce or a related field;
  • 3-5 years related experience, preferably within the financial services industry;
  • Strong business writing skills;
  • Research skills;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Detail oriented;
  • Flexibility to respond to changing priorities and deadlines;
  • Ability to manage high stress situations and resolve conflict in a professional manner;
  • Ability to work both independently and with others;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Additional Strengths

  • Working knowledge of the consumer protection legislation and other regulatory information related to consumer protection an asset;
