About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, the primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative, surveillance and consultative work in planning, developing, coordinating and administering an Infection Control Program at the Labrador Health Centre and provide coverage for other sites when required. This position involves planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the infection control program to ensure it is carried out properly, effectively and efficiently throughout the region and educating stakeholders regarding infection control practices.
Qualifications:
? Bachelor of Nursing required;
? Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador is required;
? Infection Control Certification with (CHICA) or willingness to obtain in a timeframe identified by the employer;
? Completion of Basic Infection Prevent & Control Course or willingness to obtain in a timeframe identified by the
employer;
? 3-4 years? experience/knowledge in Infection Control;
? Knowledge of epidemiology, research and evidence-based practice is an asset;
? Ability to work independently and exercise considerable judgment and initiative in performing duties;
? Excellent written, verbal communication skills; and proficient computer skill;
? General knowledge of sterilization/decontamination, microbiology and infection processes is an asset;
? Current CPR;
? A satisfactory Code of Conduct must be provided.
Duties: (Included but not limited to)
? Work with the Infection Control Coordinator and the Director responsible for Infection Prevention and Control to
develop programs and service for Infection Control;
? Provide surveillance for healthcare, industry best practices, gather relevant data for analysis and reporting, as well
as implementing interventions;
? Provide education and training to program areas, evaluate and report on changes;
? Investigate infection control outbreaks, coordinate infection prevention and control activities;
? Provide patients and families with education literature and counselling on infection control topics;
? Attend and participate in department and committee meetings (i.e. regional waste management, regional infection
control, and etc), and where applicable, provide input into policy and procedures;
? Participate in research, committees, program related activities and policy development as required;
? Maintain accurate electronic and hard copy records and submit reports and statistics as required;
? Maintain continuing education to remain current in the new methods and procedures;
? Assist in the orientation of new personnel and act as a preceptor for students in Infection Prevention and Control;
? Work to full scope of practice for Infection and Prevention Control Nurse;
? Work collaboratively with team members;
? May be required to work alone;
? Maybe required to do relief;
? Maybe required to travel;
? Other related duties as required
