The Chapman Group is assisting MAWIW Council Inc. in finding their next Events Coordinator/Social Media Officer for its IELCC program. Mawiw Council is a First Nation tribal organization whose primary purpose is to improve the overall well-being of NB's three largest rural First Nation communities (Elsipogtog, Negotkuk, Esgenoopetitj) based on unceded Wabanaki territory. MAWIW's initiatives and projects range from but not limited to: Health, Community Capacity Building, Employment and Training, Economic Development, and Service Delivery.

Position overview

The Events Coordinator and Communications/Social Media Officer will plan, coordinate, and promote events and programs across Mawiw, WTCI, and NSMTC while managing communications and social media outreach. This role strengthens community engagement and supports culturally grounded early learning initiatives across partner First Nation communities.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and execute community and organizational events, workshops, and gatherings, including cultural and land-based activities.
  • Liaise with community members, Elders, educators, and partner organizations.
  • Coordinate logistics such as venues, materials, transportation, catering, and registration.
  • Support schedules, volunteers, and on-site facilitation.
  • Ensure all events are safe, inclusive, and culturally respectful.
  • Develop content for newsletters, social media, websites, and communication materials.
  • Promote programs, events, and initiatives across communities.
  • Maintain and update social media platforms with culturally relevant content.
  • Prepare communication analytics and engagement reports.
  • Ensure messaging aligns with organizational values and cultural protocols.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in events, communications, or social media (Indigenous or community-based preferred).
  • Understanding of Indigenous culture and protocols.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with digital content tools (e.g., Canva).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple communities and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to attend events during evenings or weekends as required.
  • Knowledge of early childhood programming is an asset.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven Experience in planning, hosting and executing events, communications, or social media (Indigenous or community-based preferred).
  • Demonstrate professional, appropriate, effective, and tactful communication skills including verbal and non-verbal
  • English/Mi'kmaq is considered an asset
  • Must understand Microsoft Office Software - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mail
  • Criminal Record check/Vulnerable record check
  • Must have a Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • Understanding of Indigenous culture and protocols.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with digital content tools (e.g., Canva).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple communities.
  • Flexibility to attend events during evenings or weekends.
