The Chapman Group is please to be asissting MAWIW Council Inc. in finding a First Nation Early Childhood Education Workforce Advisor. Mawiw Council is a First Nation tribal organization whose primary purpose is to improve the overall well-being of NB's three largest rural First Nation communities (Elsipogtog, Negotkuk, Esgenoopetitj) based on unceded Wabanaki territory. MAWIW's initiatives and projects range from but not limited to: Health, Community Capacity Building, Employment and Training, Economic Development, and Service Delivery.

Position overview

The First Nation ECE Workforce Advisor supports workforce development, training, recruitment, and retention across New Brunswick First Nations. This role is delivered in partnership with the three Tribal Councils: Wolastoqey Tribal Council Inc. (WTCI), North Shore Mi'kmaq Tribal Council (NSMTC), and Mawiw Council Inc. The Advisor strengthens culturally grounded workforce strategies for ECE staff across all communities.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct workforce needs assessments.
  • Develop culturally grounded workforce growth strategies.
  • Support access to recognized ECE training programs.
  • Coordinate mentorship, training, and succession planning.
  • Provide guidance on provincial licensing requirements.
  • Support recruitment strategies at the community level.
  • Promote pathways for youth and community members into ECE careers.
  • Assist with onboarding, training plans, and progression frameworks.
  • Identify barriers and collaborate on community-led solutions.
  • Promote Wolastoqey and Mi'kmaq cultural practices and language.
  • Collaborate with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
  • Support trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches.
  • Strengthen relationships with NBCC, UNB, and training partners.
  • Coordinate regional training and knowledge-sharing events.
  • Develop monitoring tools and prepare reports for community workforce progress.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma/degree in ECE or related field.
  • Preferred NB ECE Level II/III certification.
  • 3-5 years' experience in Indigenous education or workforce development.
  • Cultural competency in Wolastoqey and Mi'kmaq protocols.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Demonstrate professional, appropriate, effective, and tactful communication skills including verbal and non-verbal
  • Must understand Microsoft Office Software - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mail
  • Criminal Record check/Vulnerable record check
  • Must have a Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • Understanding of Indigenous culture and protocols.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple communities.
  • Flexibility to attend events during evenings or weekends.
