How Monuwehkahal Homes Makes a Difference
Monuwehkahal Homes operates homes for children, youth, and adults in need of alternative housing solutions. Our mission is to offer exceptional care rooted in dignity, compassion, and evidence-informed practices.
To make this possible, we seek team members who bring kindness, patience, compassion, professionalism, and proactive dedication to their work. In return, we offer a market-leading compensation package, including comprehensive medical, dental, and pension benefits for full-time employees after they successfully complete their probation period.
Your Impact as a Youth Support Worker
As a Youth Support Worker, you will be part of a dedicated team within a single care home, working collaboratively to support children and youth in reaching their full potential. We are seeking motivated, compassionate individuals committed to providing consistent, high-quality care in a 24/7 home environment. Both part-time and full-time positions are available.
Youth Support Workers are typically scheduled on rotating eight-hour shifts (12:00 AM-8:00 AM, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, or 4:00 PM-12:00 AM), including weekends and public holidays. While Monuwehkahal makes every effort to accommodate employee availability, flexibility is essential to meeting operational needs. Employees seeking additional hours may take advantage of open shifts when available.
Applicants should be dependable, punctual, and adaptable. Access to a personal vehicle is preferred, as shifts may vary by time and location. However, excellent candidates without their own vehicle are still encouraged to apply.
Your Responsibilities as a Youth Support Worker
- Collaborate with your team in providing direct care and supervision to children, youth, and/or adults in the home, ensuring each individual's social-worker-developed care plan is fully and consistently implemented
- Ensure that a supportive environment within the home is always maintained, including through actively listening to clients, taking an interest in their interests, participating in activities, and generally helping them reach their full potential
- Maintain a positive "role model" presence in the home by consistently demonstrating compassion, kindness, patience, and proactive support towards those in your care, as well as professionalism in all interactions with your co-workers
- Support a clean and organized home environment through routine cleaning, meal preparation, laundry, and other household-related activities
- Communicate professionally with co-workers and complete all necessary client reporting, on time and in-depth, through the tools and systems provided to you
What We're Looking For (Preferred Qualifications)
- A minimum of one year of experience in a similar role with a focus on child or youth care (preference may be given to candidates who have worked specifically with First Nation children or youth in care)
- Experience completing regular in-depth reporting or the attention to detail necessary to successfully do so (detailed reporting will need to be submitted after each shift, no exceptions)
- Ability to work collaboratively and constructively with team members in high-pressure, fast-paced work environments
- Demonstrated knowledge of the child and youth care system, along with an understanding of conflict de-escalation strategies, trauma-informed care principles, and strengths-based care practices
- A willingness to take on additional shifts, with minimal notice, if needed
What You Must Have (Minimum Qualifications)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated history of compassion and professionalism
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background and vulnerable sector check
- Relevant education and/or experience in the social services, child and youth care, and/or education sectors
- Valid driver's license, proof of insurance (minimum $1mm liability), and a willingness to transport clients on occasion (excellent applicants who do not have the ability to drive will still be considered)
- Current CPR certification (NVCI, ASIST, or similar certifications are considered an asset)
