The Financial and Consumer Services Commission of New Brunswick (Commission) is a leader in integrated financial and consumer services regulation. The Commission's mandate is to protect consumers and enhance public confidence in the financial and consumer marketplace through the provision of regulatory and educational services. With offices in both Fredericton and Saint John, it is responsible for the administration and enforcement of provincial legislation regulating mortgage brokers, payday lenders, real estate, securities, insurance, pensions, credit unions, trust and loan companies, cooperatives, unclaimed property, and a wide range of consumer legislation. The Commission is a self funded Crown corporation responsible for the administration and enforcement of financial consumer services legislation.

Director, Regulatory Policy (Fredericton office)

If you are ready to make a meaningful impact, we are seeking a policy leader to help shape the future of financial and consumer services regulation in New Brunswick. The Director of Regulatory Policy will advance the Commission's legislative and regulatory initiatives, serve as the primary liaison between the Commission and government stakeholders, and oversee activities related to the Commission's rule-making process. Providing strategic leadership in the development of legislative and regulatory policy proposals that are responsive, transparent and aligned with both public interest and evolving industry practices, this role requires exceptional communication skills and deep policy expertise.

Your Focus

The focus of your role will fall under the following four categories:

Policy Development & Coordination

  • Lead development and review of legislative and regulatory proposals.
  • Provide policy advice, conduct impact assessments, and consult with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with legal, regulatory divisions, and committees to advance policy initiatives and ensure compliance with policies and processes.
  • Oversee rule-making approval processes and quality control of regulatory instruments.

Legislative & Regulatory Amendments

  • Draft and coordinate policy proposal documents, caucus materials, and legislative documents.
  • Manage briefings and logistics with Ministers, officials, and committees.
  • Guide subject matter experts and support senior leadership through legislative processes.

Government Relations & Briefings

  • Serve as primary liaison to government stakeholders to advance policy priorities.
  • Prepare briefings, respond to inquiries, and manage communications with Ministers' offices and the Premier's Office.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging risks, update the Chief Executive Officer, and foster strong government relationships through active engagement.

Team Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership as part of the Commission's Leadership team.
  • Mentor and empower a high-performing policy team in delivering cross-divisional policy support.
  • Establish processes to support efficient and effective policy development.

What you bring

  • A bachelor's degree in social sciences, business or public administration, law, or a related discipline;
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related work experience, of which three (3) years directly relate to working in developing policy;
  • Deep knowledge of financial and consumer services legislation and regulations;
  • Deep knowledge of government relations, public policy, political process;
  • Knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes;
  • Ability to motivate, collaborate and build productive relationships with all areas of the organization to reach and promote best option decisions;
  • Ability to identify and describe alternative solutions with corresponding risk analysis to complex problems;

Additional Strengths

  • Bilingual proficiency is considered an asset.
