WHO WE ARE:
The Labour and Employment Board is a quasi-judicial administrative tribunal responsible for the supervision of labour relations in both the private and public sectors in New Brunswick. Responsibilities of the Board are mandated and set out in the provisions of, among others, the Industrial Relations Act, Public Service Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Pension Benefits Act, and Human Rights Act. We are seeking an individual to provide professional assistance and support with respect to these acts and regulations in Fredericton.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will work in a small team setting and be responsible for providing legal advice and opinions to Board members and staff with respect to the various Acts administered by the Board and matters filed pursuant to these Acts. The successful candidate will also act as a mediator, especially with respect to human rights matters referred to the Board and assist in the processing of files. Responsibilities will also include advising the Board and CEO of developments in relevant areas of law and coordinating the review or drafting of policies or programs under the purview of the Board.

You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to problem-solve creatively and think on your feet. You are adept at prioritizing your workload, have a keen attention to detail, and can adapt your communication style to a variety of audiences. You are comfortable interpreting and applying legislation, and helping people find solutions to problems while maintaining neutrality and discretion.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Law Degree
- Membership in good standing or eligibility for membership to the Law Society of New Brunswick
- Minimum of five (5) years of membership in good standing at the bar
- Experience in research and interpretation of Acts and Regulations
- Demonstrated experience in the practice of human rights law, administrative law, or labour and employment law
- Experience in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation
- Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following:
- Experience in appearing before, or working with, adjudicative boards and tribunals
- Experience in conducting briefings to senior personnel
Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following operational requirement is also required:
- Possession of a valid driver's license as position requires some travel.

SALARY:
From $85,592 to $115,518 annually, depending on education and experience.
