ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Rural Zone invites applications for a permanent full-time Anesthesiologist at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, NL.

The successful candidate will function as a member of the surgical team and be responsible for the provision of anesthetic services to surgical patients in an acute care setting. Direct involvement in patient care pre- and post-operatively is required, including responsibility for pre-admission anesthesia clinics and post-operative pain management. The successful candidate will also be expected to administer epidurals and spinals to labor and delivery patients and participate in an equitable on-call schedule including weekends and holidays. On-call is billable to the Medical Care Plan (MCP).

Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital provides services to a catchment area of approximately 20,000 people. The hospital has 41 acute care beds including palliative care, medical/surgical, obstetrics, pediatric, and ICU beds, as well as 9 ER beds and 44 long-term care beds. Services include anesthesia, chemotherapy, family practice, general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, ICU/Cardiac, internal medicine, laboratory, palliative care, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology, respiratory therapy, ultrasonography, and 24-hour emergency (Category A). Visiting clinics include neurology and ophthalmology.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical Degree (MD) with specialist training
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Anesthesiology (or equivalent)
  • Eligible for and maintain licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Must satisfy credentialing and privilege requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide anesthetic services to surgical patients as a key member of the surgical team
  • Deliver pre-operative anesthesia clinic services and post-operative pain management
  • Administer epidurals and spinals to labor and delivery patients
  • Participate in an equitable on-call schedule including weekends and holidays
  • Work collaboratively within a team-based, patient-focused environment
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

As per Memorandum of Agreement

The Specialist Salary Scale ranges from CAD 302,346 – CAD 327,486 as outlined in the current Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). Step assignment determined by the Department of Health and Community Services in accordance with Provincial Guidelines, with yearly progression thereafter. On-call is billable to the Medical Care Plan (MCP).
