Under the direction or supervision of the Administrator, the Manager of Nutrition and Support Services is responsible for creating a human habitat and providing care and services to meet the needs of the elderly in the cottages. The Manager of Nutrition and Support Services is committed to alleviating the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom through facilitating small, unexpected pleasures in the day-to-day life of the residents, and by surrendering institutional routines. This is based on the established policies and procedures, Philosophy, Mission, Vision & Values of Rosecrest Communities and the Eden AlternativeTM, The Manager of Nutrition and Support Services works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors, and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in our community.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Manager of Nutrition and Support Services manage the operation of all dietary services to provide optimal nutrition for residents and the laundry and housekeeping services of Magnolia Continuing Care Communities. The Manager also manages the administrative and operational activities of the Food Services Department.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Standards/Scope of practice
- Develop and implement nutrition care policies under direction of Director.
- Maintains continuing education to keep practice current by attending relevant professional meetings, conferences, etc.
- Attend team meetings, resident council, family council, special events, joint occupational health and safety, professional advisory committee.
- Chairs community assistant meetings.
Administrative:
- Ensure staff adhere to standards, goals, and objectives for the Nutrition and Support Service Departments.
- Establishes and maintains standards for quality service.
- Creates and updates job descriptions for support services staff positions, with approval of Director.
- Interviews and selects new support services staff and provides orientation and training, alongside HR.
- Determines employee work schedules and routines as well as training needs to ensure appropriate support service provision to all residents, staff, and visitors.
- Responsible for discipline and dismissal of staff when necessary.
- Evaluates staff performance through daily observation, provides feedback for improvement and summarizes information in yearly performance appraisals.
- Assists in completing accident/incident reports with person involved.
- Establishes and maintains sanitary and safe working conditions
- Recommends and oversees purchasing of food, kitchen, laundry and housekeeping supplies and equipment.
- Participates in the planning of renovations affecting the support services department.
- Reports any equipment failure, breakdowns, and request for repairs to the Maintenance Director.
Quality Improvement
- Actively participates in quality initiatives including but not limited to; monitoring, data collection, planning and evaluating.
Safety
Work to create a culture of safety for all.
Ensure safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
Emergency Planning
- Know and adhere to Fire, Emergency & Security policies, and procedures.
Communication
- Use a positive and respectful tone of voice when conversing with residents, families, and staff.
- Proficient in verbal, written and electronic forms of communication.
Confidentiality
- Maintains confidentiality of all personal and health information for staff and residents of Rosecrest Communities
Creating a Human Habitat
- Maintains safety of the resident environment.
- Organizes resident environment to accommodate personal choice and independence.
- Actively participates in resident committees or programs.
Education
- Attends and actively participates in educational and mandatory programs in order to increase personal knowledge and abilities.
Other related duties

QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma in Foodservice Management or equivalent experience
Experience in Long Term Care preferred
Good research and analysis skills
Good organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good computer skills
HOURS OF WORK
Rosecrest Communities provides service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Hours of work will reflect operational requirements with the goal of providing safe resident care
