We are searching for a Daily Living Assistant to join our Parkland At The Lakes 2 team based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

About the Opportunity
- Assists residents with hygiene and daily living activities, such as: bathing, dressing, oral care, skin care, meals, and mobilizing according to the work assignment
- Assist with client's special needs e.g. eye care, colostomy, and catheter care.
- Assist in restorative care activities e.g. walking program, range of motion exercises.
- Participates in and receives report daily. Plans and organizes daily work assignments; prioritizes the specific needs of the clients.
- Monitors clients assessed for at risk behaviors (exploring, falls, choking, etc.) and intervenes appropriately when necessary.
- Completes required documentation of work e.g. Daily Care Flow Sheet.
- Communicates with the CSC if there is a noted change in the health status of the client e.g. decreases in appetite, increase in confusion, physical weakness, etc.
- Ensures resident safety by following and applying all standard operational procedures, safe work practices and training provided.
- Follows safety, environmental and infection control practices as per facility policies.
- Assists in the provision of social, spiritual, and intellectual activities for residents;
- Cleans resident rooms, server and household common areas
- Administers resident medications as assigned under the direction of the Resident Services
Coordinator/Manager and in accordance with Physician orders following all medication management policies and guidelines
- Completing all duties in a way which is consistent with Shannex's Philosophy of Service: Your life. Your choice. Your Home
- Communicates and reports relevant information regarding resident care or safety to Supervisor
About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:
- High School / GED completion
- Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Course or Personal Support Worker
- Current CPR & Emergency First Aid Certification is required
- You are registered in Nova Scotia's CCA registry as per the Continuing Care Assistants Registry Act (NS only)
- Basic Food Safety /Food Handlers Course is considered an asset
- Completed Alzheimer's Disease and other Dementia Care Course is considered an asset
- Completed Palliative Care Course is considered an asset
- Previous experience in working with the elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment is considered an asset
- Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours and shifts inclusive of days, nights, weekends, and holidays
