The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking individuals to establish an inventory of qualified candidates to fill current and future Policy Advisor positions within the Regulatory Affairs Branch, in Fredericton. This position also provides services to the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries (DAAF) and the Department of Energy (DE).

The Regulatory Affairs Branch is responsible for policy development, program evaluation, and legislative framework, which includes a considerable number of Acts and Regulations, for DNR, DAAF, and DE. The branch plays a critical role in providing advice, analysis and information to senior executives and staff, to assist in the discussion and development of policy and to maintain a regulatory framework for the departments and government.

As a member of the Regulatory Affairs team and reporting to the Director, this position is responsible for coordinating the review of Memoranda to Executive Council (MEC) being developed by DNR, DAAF, and DE, and liaising with the Executive Council Office and other government departments and agencies for the development and approval of MECs. This role is responsible for providing senior and executive management with policy options, solutions, and advice on all aspects of the key business areas within the departments, and for developing legislative, regulatory, intergovernmental, financial and policy proposals and preparing MECs. This position is also responsible for representing the three departments on inter-departmental committees, making presentations, preparing provincial submissions and proposals, and developing responses to provincial government initiatives. Other related duties may be assigned as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will require the following: A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Public Administration, Social Sciences or Humanities, or a Natural Resources related degree; a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience in policy analysis, writing briefing notes and proposals for the development or amendment of policy. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Some positions require written and spoken competence in French and English. Others will require written and spoken competence in English only. Please state your language capability on your application.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: work outside of the standard work hours and travel within the province when required; maintain an understanding of the key priorities of the departments and the existing policy framework; assist directors, managers and staff with the delivery of their policy needs; accept new challenges; and work within a fast-paced team environment.

SALARY: $66,924 to $93,470 per annum
