Qualifications:
Graduation with an approved Bachelors in Therapeutic Recreation/or Recreation with major course work in therapeutic
recreation;
Current certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) with the national council therapeutic recreation
certification (NCTRC);
Experience working as a recreational specialist in a health care setting is an asset;
Extensive knowledge in assessment, assessment tools, program design/protocol, client care plans, documentation,
therapeutic intervention/facilitation techniques;
Ability to demonstrate a positive, respectful, and sensitive approach to needs of the clients;
Demonstrated competencies in problem solving and program planning;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct
Duties: (Included but not limited to):
Conducts individualized assessments on clients. This involves collecting appropriate information to develop individualized
treatment plans, determining strategies including functional interventions, leisure education and recreation participation
level;
Plans and develops individualized treatment plans and attends multidisciplinary meetings where existing treatment plans are
reviewed, evaluated, and recommendations made;
Designs, develops, and implements group and individual programs using the Leisure Ability Model;
Documents individualized client intervention plan which may involve documenting care such as referrals, screening and
assessment notes, attendance and progress notes, transfers, discharge planning, and a follow up plan;
Responsible for educating clients, families, staff, volunteers, students, and other stakeholders regarding therapeutic
recreation services including the promotion of its services, and networking with various community agencies in providing
community-based opportunities for clients;
Works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary mental health team;
Other related duties as required.
