INSTRUCTOR
Offshore Safety and Survival Centre
Marine Institute
(Two Full-time Contractual positions to August 28, 2026)

DUTIES
This position is a contract instructor position at the Offshore Safety & Survival Centre (OSSC) with the primary responsibility to delivery the Marine Institute's Fire Rescue Program. The successful applicant(s) will support the delivery of theoretical and practical instruction and training in NFPA Certification courses, Industrial courses, Marine Emergency Response courses as per the OSSC's Integrated Management System and applicable governing standards and guidelines. Courses will be primarily delivered at the OSSC in Foxtrap and our Holyrood campus locations, however, applicant(s) must also be willing to travel for remote course delivery within areas of the province for short durations typically less then a two week period. As an instructor, you will be required to deliver classroom instruction followed by practical demonstrations in firefighting, industrial safety and emergency response, and assist with marine survival training where appropriate. This will include practical exercises in live fire evolutions, industrial emergency response exercises and in water survival. Instructors provide a supervisor role in all practical exercises with a responsibility for life safety including the expectation of ensuring risk management practices are followed. In addition to theoretical instruction and training, instructors are responsible for administrative duties including, but not limited to, job safety analysis, maintenance and inspections, the development and upkeeping of new and existing courses under the direction of applicable standards and the Director of the OSSC, and performing other related duties as required. The duties outlined above are not intended to be exhaustive and the successful candidate(s) will be familiarized on the roles and responsibilities including reviewing of a comprehensive job description during the hiring process.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant(s) must have at least four (6) years relevant experience in a firefighting and/or emergency response setting, relevant NFPA certifications including but not limited to NFPA 1001 Level 2, NFPA 1041, NFPA 1021, NFPA 1002. A college level certification related to the emergency response sector or approved equivalent, possess a valid industry medical or approved equivalent; and demonstrated ability to work in and around an aquatic environment. Preference will be given to candidates with superior education, relevant industry certificates, previous teaching experience, and/or additional related qualifications. Individuals who are approved by St. John Ambulance or Red Cross to deliver first aid training, NFPA 1081 and GWO certifications would be considered assets. Equivalent qualifications or experience with the Department of National Defence, an emergency organization or a safety training organization may be considered.

SALARY: Commensurate with Marine Institute Instructors' Collective Agreement (NAPE Local 7405)
