Long Term Care Assistant (LTCA)


Department: Nursing

Union: Unionized

Position: 1.0 FTE, Permanent

Hours of Work: 10:00 - 18:00 with alternating weekends

Responsible to: Nurse Manager, RN Supervisor and LPN Team Lead

Rate of pay: $18.77

What You'll Be Doing:

Resident Care & Support

  • Help with unit tasks like bed-making, laundry, and passing fluids
  • Assist with meals: delivering trays and offering eating support
  • Support mobility needs including transfers, lifts, and repositioning
  • Escort residents to meals, appointments, and activities
  • Provide companionship, including sitting vigil with palliative residents
  • Respond to call bells and notify staff when additional support is needed

Infection Control & Environment

  • Clean/disinfect high-touch surfaces and resident areas
  • Manage supplies in bathing areas and sanitize equipment
  • Label resident belongings with heat press (as applicable)
  • Assist with internal room transfers for residents

Communication & Team Collaboration

  • Maintain respectful, open communication with team members
  • Promptly report changes in resident condition or concerns

Administrative & Other Duties

  • Shred documents, organize binders, and help with clerical tasks
  • Support nursing staff within scope of training or delegated tasks
  • Take on other responsibilities as directed to support smooth unit operations

What You Bring:

  • Completion of Grade 10 or higher
  • Strong interpersonal skills and compassion for seniors
  • Excellent communication (verbal and non-verbal)
  • A positive, team-focused attitude
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing resident needs or routines
  • Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform role duties
  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Previous long-term care experience is an asset
