Site Description: Newfoundland and Labrador's primary and most advanced container terminal. The St. John's Port Authority (SJPA) plays a central role in both the day-to-day marine operations of the port and in planning its future. Position Details:

Position: Casual Security Officers Site: St. John's Port Authority Overtime: Overtime after 48 hours Hours: Casual - As needed Payrate: $ 20.00/hour Posting Date: November 17th, 2025 Internal Closing Date: February 28, 2026 External Closing Date: February 28, 2026

Schedule Example: As Required

Key responsibilities:

  • TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Based on specific site posting, log and report all incidents reported by SJPA staff or visitors
  • Patrol interior and exterior of facility preventing unauthorized entry; in a composed manner direct individuals initiating disruption to leave the premises
  • While on patrol, monitor risks such as unlocked doors, blocked entrances and exits, mechanical issues, hazardous material and additional breaches of security
  • Respond to alarms and emergency calls for assistance. Monitoring situations, cameras, property and events
  • Communicate in a truthful and receptive manner under all circumstances as well as provide information regarding the facility as requested by personnel
  • Sustain effective relationships with key managers and visitors through courteous and respectful relations perceived from their viewpoint
  • Monitor and screen visitors and clients in a professional manner in order to grant access to the facility
  • Access control to monitor, record and submit written reports of the arrival of all vessels in each respective zone including arrival/departure time and berth location

Prerequisites:

  • Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • MTSC (Marine Transportation Security Clearance)
  • Valid First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
  • Valid class 5 Driver License & a clean Driver's Abstract
  • Must have a Work History in Canada for 5 years
  • English (oral and written) fluency is a must
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
  • Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
  • Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
