INSTRUCTOR

The Offshore Safety & Survival Centre (OSSC) invites applications for the position of Instructor for a permanent appointment located in Foxtrap, NL. Reporting to the Director, Offshore Safety & Survival Centre, the successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of both theoretical and practical instruction in marine, offshore, and industrial emergency response training programs. Training will be delivered primarily at the OSSC Foxtrap Campus and the Marine Base in Holyrood. Occasional assignments may be required at other locations within Newfoundland and Labrador, and in northern regions including the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
DUTIES
In accordance with the OSSC's risk management protocols and applicable governing standards, regulations, and guidelines, the primary responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise and ensure participant safety and compliance with established risk management procedures during all training activities.
- Deliver classroom instruction in firefighting, marine survival, and rescue craft operations.
- Conduct and supervise live-fire exercises, open-water survival training, and rescue operations in both controlled and natural environments.
- Lead in the development, review, and revision of training courses to ensure alignment with current standards and best practices.
- Perform administrative duties related to course delivery, documentation, and reporting, as directed by the OSSC Director.
- Supporting other instructional and operational duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicants must have at least four (4) years relevant experience in a marine or offshore environment, relevant three (3) year diploma or approved equivalent, possess a valid Transport Canada Marine medical or approved equivalent; and demonstrated ability to work in and around an aquatic environment. The successful applicant shall hold a valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency to a minimum of Watchkeeping Mate or Second Class Engineer. Preference will be given to candidates with advanced education, relevant Transport Canada certificates of competencies, previous teaching experience, experience in offshore/marine helicopter operations, experience in Major Emergency Management and/or additional related qualifications. Equivalent qualifications or experience with the Department of National Defence, an emergency organization or a safety and survival training organization may be considered.
