JOB PURPOSE

The Compensation Officer is responsible for ensuring accuracy, validity and processing of all associated changes to the employee record in Meditech. In addition, they act as a resource to Human Resources, Payroll, Managers and Employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduation plus an administrative support program of over one and up to two years or equivalent.
  • Must have two years of previous related experience.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work record.

Demonstrated proficiency verified by testing in:

  • Data Entry 4000 KSPH
  • Outlook 50%
  • Excel 75%
  • Compensation Knowledge 75%

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that all collective agreement language/policies/procedures/standard operating procedures are followed, valid and applied correctly to each change requested as processed
  • Investigate requests for change that do not follow collective agreement language/policies/procedures/standard operating procedures to determine if the change can be made, if additional information is required, further authority is needed, etc.
  • Process and update all valid changes associated with the employee Meditech record within the personnel/payroll (Meditech) system in a timely and accurate manner. Changes include but are not limited to: new hires, merit increase, resignation, leave of absence, reclassification, transfers, promotions, etc.
  • Calculate rates of pay and overrides on withholdings
  • Determine, investigate, verify, update and correct employee accumulated benefit plans
  • Update and apply step tables for contract increases. In addition, investigate/adjust exceptions to rates applied.
  • Apply collective agreement language, policies, and/or plan language by establishing appropriate withholdings on the employee record based on their contract and employment type i.e. insured benefits, pension plan, union dues, etc.
  • Advise and assist Managers on the application of applicable collective agreement language/policies/standard operating procedures related to changes associated with an employee
  • Answers inquiries related to the employee record by the Human Resource Advisors, Unions, Payroll Officers, Managers, Employees, etc.
  • Performs general office duties such as faxing, filing, photocopying, scanning, reception coverage, etc.
  • Shows others how to perform tasks or duties as part of the departmental orientation
