DUTIES

The Academic Advising Officer will be responsible for providing academic advice to prospective, first-year, and undeclared students, as well as students transitioning between academic programs. Duties include providing timely and accurate academic advice to students; assisting students in understanding institutional policies; connecting students with campus resources to foster student success; providing information about faculties and schools through meetings and presentations; developing and providing information sessions to university applicants regarding program and course selection, registration, and other enrolment matters; advising applicants of their eligibility for general university admission, as well as faculty or school admission; creating and facilitating student activities to enhance student engagement; planning and coordinating high school advising outreach; utilizing proactive advising and implementing interventions to support specific groups of students; maintaining accurate and timely advising records of student interactions; compiling reports of outreach activities; creating and refining advising resources to support students who are still exploring their academic paths; attending meetings of faculties and various committees; and performing other related duties as required. Some evening work is required during registration periods.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (3-5 years) in academic advising or in a student support service environment; graduation with a university degree in a related field is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of university structures, academic programs, and degree requirements, and of academic decision-making processes; the ability to exercise independent judgement; manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail; excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; and strong organizational skills. The successful candidate will be expected to travel and should preferably possess a valid driver's license issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Knowledge of Memorial's degree programs, course offerings, and services; possession of a master's degree; and knowledge of student administrative systems (e.g., Banner Student), University policies and procedures, and the Registrar's Office would be considered assets.

SALARY $64,361 - $87,763 per annum (Management and Professional)
