The Department of Justice and Public Safety is dedicated to the rule of law, the promotion of the public interest, and the impartial administration of justice and works to improve the safety, security and resiliency of communities and citizens.

The Department of Justice and Public Safety is seeking qualified individuals to fill the position of Regional Emergency Management Coordinator (REMC) for it's Emergency Measures Organization (EMO). Reporting to the Area Manager, the REMC is responsible for co-ordination of regional emergency planning and for directing regional operations during emergencies in order to mitigate the consequences of a disaster.

What you will do
The successful candidate will liaise with representatives of municipalities, government departments and provincial / federal agencies; develop and implement regional emergency plans; provide assistance, direction and advice to municipalities; coordinate and oversee emergency preparedness training locally and regionally; provide subject matter expertise; observe and provide consistent feedback / mentorship to internal and/or external stakeholders during the response and recovery operation of an emergency, emergency training, simulations and exercise; prepare and coordinate emergency preparedness; develop and implement policies and procedures to attain, manage and direct the services of volunteers and external emergency personnel during an emergency.

Need to have:

• University Degree in an applicable field
• 4 years' experience in planning, leading organizations in the field of Emergency Management or 2 years of post-secondary education with 6 years of planning, leading organizations in the field of Emergency Management
• Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirement is also required:

• Travel within the Province and possession of a valid driver's license

Nice to Have (their asset qualifications)

• Training and/or experience at a senior level in emergency response in areas of policing, firefighting, delivery of ambulance, Red Cross, health emergency management or the military

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Wage
$2,249.00 to $3,145.00 biweekly based on education and experience

Work environment

• Your Team: small team (8-10 employees) with the capacity to increase during emergency operations
• Flexible work environment, combining office and remote functions; individual is required to patrol and circulate regularly throughout their region of responsibility
• Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30, however individual is expected to be available 24/7 in emergency situations
