Job Summary
The Occupational Therapy Support Worker (OTSW) works under the clinical direction and supervision of the Clinical Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide Occupational Therapy services to clients of Traumatic Stress Services (TSS). This is a specialized service for clients who have experienced complex trauma.
The OTSW will carry out individual and group interventions with clients as directed by the Occupational Therapist throughout the clients? participation in all phases of service. Individual interventions may include working in client?s homes or communities to facilitate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (i.e. exposure or hoarding), as well as supporting engagement in activities through Behavioural Activation, building healthy routines & social connections. In office interventions will include significant research and communication with employment, education and community programs and relaying findings to the OT and client.
Group interventions may include the co-facilitation of Core Skills groups, Expressive Arts, Sensory Enhanced Yoga, Community Garden and social groups as well as a variety of workshops. The OTSW is responsible for the purchasing of supplies required for individual and group interventions as well as reconciling these purchases through online banking. The OTA is responsible for the preparation and set-up for both for OT groups and other TSS groups.
The OTSW communicates and collaborates with the supervising occupational therapist regarding clients? progress. The OTSW must be able to utilize clinical judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills; follow ethical guidelines; function within scope of practice responsibilities; comply with legal requirements; and demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with others to meet client?s goals and overall delivery of occupational therapy services. The Occupational Therapy Support Worker will be responsible for documentation on client charts, booking appointments and updating caseload forms.
The Occupational Therapy Support Worker will be responsible to precept Rehabilitation and OTA/PTA students and offer other clinical education experience to students within NLHS.
This position reports to the Division Manager and maintains accountability to the Regional Professional Practice Consultant for Occupational Therapy for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved/recognized Occupational Therapy Assistant or Rehabilitation Assistant Program is required.
Experience in a mental health and addictions setting would be considered an asset.
Education/training and an understanding of the application of ASIST, trauma informed care, DBT & CBT when working with clients will be helpful. Training opportunities can be arranged with the support of the OT and management.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to meet patient goals and overall delivery of occupational therapy services.
Ability to utilize clinical judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
A valid Class V driver's license, A satisfactory Driver's Abstract, and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
