WorkSafeNB is seeking to fill a Disability Management and Benefits Specialist. Reporting to the Director, Health and Wellness, the Disability Management & Benefits Specialist is responsible for leading and overseeing the organization's disability management program, ensuring effective support for employees experiencing occupational and non-occupational illness, injury, or disability. This role balances employee wellbeing with organizational needs by facilitating safe and timely return-to-work processes, coordinating accommodations, and ensuring compliance with legislative, collective agreement, and policy requirements. Acting as a trusted advisor and case manager, the Disability Management and Benefits Specialist partners with employees, leaders, unions, human resources business partners, healthcare providers, and insurers to promote workplace health, reduce disability-related risks and costs, and foster an inclusive, supportive work environment.

In addition to disability management, the Disability Management and Benefits Specialist supports the coordination and leads the promotion of employee benefits programs, contributing to education, engagement, and continuous improvement through utilization review and recommendations aligned with best practices.

Your key areas of responsibility are as follows:

  • Disability Management - Lead all Disability Management cases to support employee well-being and ensure effective, timely management of occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses. Apply expertise in case management and legislative knowledge to guide and support employees and leaders through complex, often time-sensitive health-related situations.
  • Training and Development - Support training and development of disability management, and benefits-related programs
  • Health & Wellness - Support the Health, Safety and Wellness team with corporate wellness initiatives to promote the holistic health and wellbeing of our employees.
  • Statistical Analysis - Gather and analyze data related to disability management and benefits from multiple sources to identify trends and extract organizational insights.
  • Health Benefits Program - Support the coordination of employee health benefits programs and lead promotion and education efforts to improve employee understanding, engagement, and plan utilization. Monitor usage, respond to feedback, and recommend enhancements based on best practices and emerging trends.

You, as a successful candidate, possess:

  • University degree in a relevant field a relevant field such as human resources, health-related discipline, or social sciences (e.g. psychology or social work). An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' disability management-related experience, including exposure to Workers' Compensation Board and long-term disability plans.
  • Professional designation in Disability Management (e.g. CRTWC, CDMP) is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized workforce, understanding collective agreements and related processes.
  • Knowledge in Disability Management.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and process development, reporting and governance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Human Rights Act, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workers' Compensation Act, Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Employment Insurance Act.
  • Proven track record of advising in disability claims management, absence management, accommodations, and achieving program goals.
  • The ability to assess needs, analyze and advise on sensitive situations and recommend practical solutions for employees experiencing a disability.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent documentation, time management, and written communication skills, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies and resources to support accommodation efforts.
  • The ability to navigate the organization and interact with staff at all levels.

Written and spoken competence in English is required for this position. Bilingualism would be an asset.

Pay Scale $86,797.90 to $102,115.18

Hours of work are those required to perform the assigned tasks but shall not be less than 35 hours per week.

Your primary workspace will be from your in-home office, with the occasional expectation of in-person meetings, for that reason, working from outside the province of New Brunswick, or country, is not permissible.

Assessments are affected by the level of activities in the province's workplaces, as are the resulting claims. There are also substantial assets that ensure WorkSafeNB will be able to provide the ongoing benefits promised to injured workers through a wage loss recovery insurance system. These funds are invested in the financial markets and investment returns are subject to the ups and downs of the marketplace.
