Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is seeking a motivated, organized, detail-oriented individual to join our team as a OR Materials Manager. The ideal candidate will have experience of Materials Management in a surgical program setting and a demonstrated knowledge of surgical instruments and operating room supplies and equipment.

Who you are
You have a worked in Materials Management or Operating Room for a minimum of 5 years and have experience in evaluation techniques.
Degree in a health-related discipline or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of various related provincial guidelines, government acts and regulations, standard public purchasing guidelines and fair business practice preferred.
What you will do
- Develops and coordinates a regional plan to meet the supply and equipment needs of the Surgical Program.
- Resolves supply and equipment related problems to ensure the appropriate products are available when needed to provide safe patient care.
- Determines educational needs of nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists and support staff with respect to surgical supplies / equipment and develops strategies to deliver appropriate education.
- Standardizes operating room supplies, instrumentation and item descriptions. Reviews all products in use in operating rooms and works toward ensuring that only one product is used for the same purpose throughout the sites. Emphasis is on maintaining and enhancing existing standards of patient care while conserving resources and improving value for expenditures. • Responsible for staff management. Coordinates and directs the activities of the OR Inventory Technician.
- Plays an active role in the budget process, providing critical information of projected const contracts.
- Prepares cost/benefit analysis for new equipment or major supplies for the decision makers considering a change in practice or procedure.
- Coordinates the development of specifications for surgical supplies and equipment in the region.
- Coordinates the purchase process of major equipment and supplies (including high tech and capital equipment) between Clinical Director, OR Manager, Purchasing Department, Surgical Unit Managers, OR nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists and other stakeholders such as Biomedical Engineering, Information services and Maintenance.
- Collaborates with ad hoc and advisory teams to develop and coordinate clinical evaluations.
- Maintains knowledge of clinical procedures and techniques and they related to supply and equipment requirements.
- Maintains current knowledge of group purchasing contracts (Medbuy) and develops strategies to ensure optimal compliance.
- Establishes surgical product inventory control by setting appropriate par levels of supplies to minimize inventory holding costs and waste due to obsolescence. Develops processes to ensure appropriate inventory stocking and delivery.
- Collaborates with the OR managers to implement and maintain a surgical preference card system as part of the Surgical Electronic Information System.
