Internship Placement for Winter 2026 Term

Location: 20 McGloin Street, Fredericton or Remote
Number of placements: 1
Salary: $18.00/hour
Hours per week: Flexible (around 20 hours)
Placement Duration: January - April 2026
Department: Tourism, Heritage, and Culture (THC)
Placement Description: This placement provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in community planning, active infrastructure design, and public policy within the Government of New Brunswick. Working with the Manager of Physical Activity and Active Transportation, the student will contribute to projects that advance Healthy Built Environments by exploring how thoughtful design, planning, and policy can help people move more easily, connect with others, and thrive in their communities. This role bridges research, planning, and design, offering the chance to turn data and evidence into actionable insights that influence real-world decision-making.
This role offers an opportunity for skills development and hands-on experience.
Need to have:

  • Language requirement: English or French
  • Studying in Community or Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Design, Public Policy, or Health Promotion
  • Interest in active communities, sustainable mobility, or healthy-community design

Nice to have: The ideal candidate will have an understanding of community planning, active transportation networks, and urban or rural design principles that promote healthy, active living. They should have strong analytical and organizational skills, along with the ability to interpret and visualize spatial or community data. Experience with tools such as GIS, AutoCAD, Adobe, Canva, or AI visualization platforms would be an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, particularly the ability to explain technical information clearly to different audiences. The candidate should also demonstrate initiative, creativity, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
