Job Summary

Reporting to the Division Manager, The Registered Nurse II is responsible for coordination and leadership of a comprehensive program for immunology, perinatal follow up clinics and other services to be determined in collaboration with the manager.

The Registered Nurse II communicates directly with patients/families to assess the patient's needs and coordinate care and supports by liaising with physicians and other members of the health care team, schools, community groups and agencies and other programs/health system resources. The Registered Nurse II also provides support and counselling to patients/families regarding treatment plans and recommendation of care, coordinates and participates in clinics, and assists in overall system navigation.

The Registered Nurse II functions in a leadership capacity, acting as a clinical consultant to staff within the Child Health Program, provincial hospitals and community agencies. The Registered Nurse II participates in clinical research, collects and analyzes relevant statistics on patient diagnosis, reports on workload statistics, and advises the Division Manager and program on the need for supplies and equipment.
Job Demands

Occasionally moves or lifts equipment weighing between 10-25 lbs
Occasionally may have to assist patients such as push or pull patients over 50 lbs in a wheelchair or help them stand on a weight scale
May require constant sitting to counsel patients and family members, perform clinical procedures, demonstrate equipment handling, and document information on the computer
Occasional walking or standing to deliver presentations, conduct clinics and consult patients
Regularly performs fine finger/precision work for machine operation and computer documentation
Visual concentration is required to review and interpret patient test results, give medication, and observe patient's condition
Auditory concentration is required to listen to patients and family members during counselling
Other sensory demands such as touch are required to check patients for changes in temperature, palpate pulses, perform tests/procedures such as blood pressure or vital signs

Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized school of nursing program is required.
A current practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required
Current BLS for Health Care Providers Certification is required.
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience in the last seven (7) working with the pediatric population is required.*
Experience in educating patients is an asset.
Proficiency with Meditech and Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated progressive leadership is required.
Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.

Occasional travel may be required.
