Definition of work:
This is a professional nursing leadership position that requires extensive experience and current knowledge of all aspects of the Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatrics program. The Program Clinical Educator the Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatrics program is accountable for educator responsibilities in collaboration with the existing Care Facilitator-Clinical Educator (CF-CE) roles. This regional position supports quality improvement initiatives, acts as a clinical resource, and leads policy development to ensure adherence to best practices and organizational standards. The Program Clinical Educator also represents the program in various health committees and research projects, promoting the strategic goals of the organization. Oversight will be provided by the Manager of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatric Services at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Center. Position based at a Central Zone birthing site (CNRHC or JPMRHC); travel within the Central Zone required.
Key Responsibilities:
?Develop and coordinate orientation programs for new staff using national standards and best practices; assist with orientation delivery.
?Participate actively in unit activities including weekly rounds, staff meetings, and team-building events.
?Coordinate and assist with quality review processes, including audits, chart reviews, and clinical safety investigations.
?Manage ongoing education plans and deliver educational sessions to current staff.
?Serve as a clinical resource for multidisciplinary teams in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Pediatrics.
?Lead the development and dissemination of program policies; collaborate with CF-CE to ensure staff competency and compliance with organizational guidelines and standards.
?Oversee program platforms such as MoreOb to support staff education and program management.
?Coordinate and facilitate specialty courses such as Fetal Health Surveillance, Neonatal Resuscitation, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
?Represent the program in local, zonal, provincial, and national maternal and child health committees and meetings.
?Lead or participate in organization-supported research projects to advance maternal and child health practices.
?Provide leadership that aligns with and supports the strategic direction of the organization.
Provide leadership and clinical expertise in patient safety initiatives that align with quality and process improvements.
?Support the work required for Accreditation Canada to deliver quality, safe care within the program.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
?Undergraduate degree in nursing, or willingness to complete. Candidates without an undergraduate degree in nursing must complete a minimum of two courses per year.
?Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
?Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatrics. Two (2) years of this experience must have been within the last four (4) years.
?Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
