Overview:

The Mental Health & Addictions Social Worker provides culturally grounded, trauma-informed social work services to individuals, families, and the community. Working as part of an interdisciplinary health team, the Social Worker supports wellness through assessment, counseling, intervention, prevention, and advocacy. This role plays a key part in promoting balance, healing, and resilience within Bilijk First Nation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling for clients experiencing mental health and/or addiction challenges.
  • Assess clients' needs and develop and implement culturally appropriate treatment and wellness plans in collaboration with the client and interdisciplinary team.
  • Develop and facilitate therapeutic interventions, wellness programs, and support groups.
  • Provide crisis intervention, stabilization, and case management services as needed.
  • Facilitate family mediation and conflict resolution sessions to support healthy communication and family dynamics.
  • Conduct assessments and coordinate referrals to appropriate internal and external services.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and maintain accurate clinical records and documentation.
  • Engage in program planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Network with internal and external partners to promote mental health, harm reduction, and substance-free living.
  • Support community wellness through prevention, education, and awareness initiatives, including school outreach and community capacity building.
  • Participate in and promote cultural, spiritual, and ceremonial events.
  • Strengthen the community crisis and critical incident response capacity by participating in crisis response and debriefing initiatives.
  • Attend training, workshops, and conferences to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the NNADAP Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from a recognized university.
  • Registered and in good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers (NBASW).
  • Previous experience in addictions, mental health, or community social work is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy in a culturally respectful and trauma-informed manner.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and model a healthy, substance-free lifestyle.
  • Must have a strong understanding and respect for Bilijk culture, language, and traditional healing practices.
  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.
